Crypto Gaming Round-up #4
Skyweaver Open Beta is live
The open beta for Skyweaver, a blockchain trading card game, went live last week after being in the soft launch phase for sometime. The game is available on PC, Android and iOS. Developed by Horizon Blockchain Games, Skyweaver doesn’t currently have a native token but uses USDC on Polygon for in-game purchases. It’s also not necessarily a play-to-earn game, although there’s an avenue to generate some income from ranking up and winning silver or gold cards that can be traded.
We are not big fans of trading card games, so our ability to assess them is limited. However, folks at TokenGamer seem to think that Skyweaver is “the best blockchain game so far”.
Guild of Guardians provides roadmap update
In their first post of 2022, the Guild of Guardians team updated its roadmap, pushing back major milestones by a quarter or two. Here are the updated timelines for different stages of development, with the mainnet release now planned for the second half of 2023.
We have been quite vocal at MetaPortal that a lot of the development timelines for crypto games will have to be pushed back due to the complexity of developing a game and integrating tech like blockchain and NFTs.
Another interesting piece of information from the update is that the team is now 100+ people, which is in line with most high-profile crypto games like Illuvium, Axie, Sipher, Sandbox, etc.
If you want to learn more about Guild of Guardians, this thread from Daolectic Research is pretty good.
Merit Circle release February 2022 treasury report
The value of the Merit Circle treasury dropped by 9% in January, from $125 million to $113 million. The team excludes the value of the MC token in the treasury from its calculations. Further, MC generated $1.6 million in January, mostly from token sales. The proceeds were split between USDC, BTC & ETH, and MC token buyback and burn.
The team also provided some commentary on the current gaming operations. One interesting bit is that they are looking to shift scholars from Axie Infinity to other games, as the ability to earn in Axie has declined.
Axie Infinity provides updates on Origin
Sky Mavis shared their progress on Origin (Battles V3) and it looks like we are getting close to the Alpha. There will be no SLP or AXS earnings during the Alpha stage but the game should be available to everyone.
It looks like there will be a lot of changes in Origin. Some are pretty simple with sequential turns and card and energy resets at each turn. We will also have card changes with each card carrying either an attacking or defensive value, but not both. Axies will also get cards for two body parts that have, so far, been unused - eyes and ears. And if that’s not enough, power-ups, Runes and Charms, will be introduced as well. There are other changes too. Overall, a really comprehensive update from the team.
Crypto Raiders launches bonds on Polygon
Crypto Raiders partnered with Olympus Pro to launch bonds on Polygon. The team will gradually acquire liquidity for its native token, RAIDER, instead of continuing to rent liquidity by paying incentives. Learn more here.
Crypto Unicorns pushes pack the token sale
There were a few pieces of news from Laguna Games on their Crypto Unicorns game. First, the team airdropped some UNIM tokens to all land and unicorn holders, with snapshot occuring on January 28th. They also pushed back the token sale for RBW, their governance token, to February 28th. Aron Beierschmitt, co-founder of Laguna Games, went on the “Become the impossible” podcast last week and spoke in detail about the game, tokenomics, roadmap, etc. This is a great thread if you would like to catch up.
