Crypto gaming roundup #20
Blockchain-based gaming is still hot?
To start on a positive note, DappRadar and the Blockchain Game Alliance reported back in April that $2.5 billion poured into blockchain games in the first quarter of 2022. And in 2021, VCs invested a total of $4 billion into blockchain games. Blockworks cited these data points and more in a recent piece on the strength of crypto gaming, amid marketwide turmoil.
To further the point they focused on Animoca brands, who reported “earnings that value its portfolio at $1.5 billion across over 340 portfolio companies… with income from token and NFT (non-fungible token) sales, contributing to net gains of $573 million for the first quarter.”
In a message to shareholders, Animoca co-founder and executive chair Yat Siu wrote that “current market conditions will not kill Web3, the open metaverse, NFTs or cryptocurrencies”.
Decentral Games
In what’s fast becoming a weekly report on DG, the ICE Poker Go Beta Test signup is now live, you can apply here.
Interestingly the DG CMO also confirmed forthcoming billboard adverts from Mastercard and Tyson Foods, going live in mid-July. Mainstream brands are following through on their Metaverse strategies it would seem. Also this week, the team allocated Polygon validator node rewards and wearable secondary sale royalties to buy and burn 5.2M ICE, making it their largest ICE burn to date. Overall the DAO generated $169,887.67 in revenue last week.
Big Time early access
Jade Early access has launched, with VIP passes granting the first 8,000 players guaranteed early access to the multiplayer RPG game.
On a related note, Polkastarter Gaming kicked off their YouTube channel with a Big Time review, if you’re short of places to get crypto gaming coverage.
Fancybirds governance
The first Fancybirds Improvement Proposal “FIP-1” has been approved by the community. Effectively June 10th, 2022, players can stake their in-game FNC. Staking rewards claimed as FNC will now be eligible for yield and revenue distribution (RevDis), similar to the Illuvium model. RevDis rewards will only be distributed to staking positions locked for at least 4 weeks, incentivising tokenholders to lock for longer.
Myria Alliance Sigil NFTs
Myria is a gaming ecosystem powered by its own Ethereum L2 scaling solution.
If you’re in the mood to explore, head to http://myria.com/sigil and complete missions for credits to claim your free Sigil NFT.
Big Town Chef goes viral
Not to be confused with Big Time, Big Town genesis NFTs are live and free to Mint.
The team shared their surprise at the crazy 24hrs after launch, with the project gaining over 16,000 followers on Discord, seeing tweets read by over 130,000 people and minting nearly 4,900 Chefs. This is likely due to the, last-minute announcement that the Chefs would be free, driving the NFTs to the top of Opensea’s 24hr volume leaderboard.
An interesting approach for sure, and seemingly a first in the NFT space as far as celebrity chefs go.
